World ME Day 2024 | Join our call-to-action

3 May 2024

This World ME Day, we are supporting the World ME Alliance in becoming a #GlobalVoiceForME.

ME is a global health crisis and we must therefore collaborate across the world to combat it. In showing a united stance against ME, sharing research findings, and building much-needed awareness of the condition in every nation, we can create positive change for people affected by ME now, and in the future.

In addition to contacting the UK’s WHO National Counterpart, calling on them to become a #GlobalVoiceForME, we want to ensure that momentum gained from the recent Westminster Hall debate is not lost.

We’re calling the Government to fulfil its moral duty to people with ME through committing to funding more, high-quality research into the condition and releasing the full publication of the cross-Government Delivery Plan as a matter of urgency.

We’re asking you, or your friends and family, to take these simple steps to send this template letter directly to your local MP on World ME Day to ensure the Government hears our collective voice.

1. Find your local MP and their contact details using the search function on the Government website, here.

2. Copy and paste the email address of your local MP as the recipient to a new email.

3. Copy and paste the below message into the email, inserting your local MPs name at the beginning, and your name at the end.

4. Download a copy of our template letter.

5. Enter the name of your local MP in the first highlighted section, at the top of the template letter.

6. Enter your name in the second highlighted section, at the bottom of the template letter.

7. Save the letter and attach it to the email.

8. Hit send.

Dear [insert local MP name],

I am writing to you today on World ME Day, 55 years after the World Health Organisation officially recognised ME as a neurological illness.

Despite this, people with ME continue to face stigma, a lack of understanding, and there remains a distinct paucity of research into the condition. Unless this changes, more and more people will develop ME and have their lives stolen by its symptoms.

I attach a letter outlining some of the key challenges facing the ME community and sincerely hope that you will help build on the momentum generated by the recent Westminster Hall debate, led by Sir Sajid Javid MP on Wednesday 1 May, by calling for the Government to fulfil its moral duty to people affected by ME through committing funding to more, high-quality research into the condition and by releasing the full publication of the cross-Government Delivery Plan.

Yours sincerely,

[Insert your name]

We recognise that this may not be possible for everyone, and we are exploring options to make actions such as this more accessible for the future, but do not have the technology available to do so currently.

Thank you for taking the time and energy to help support our work in this way.
