Mindfulness for people with ME/CFS and their carers

November 21, 2024

Since April 2024, Action for ME volunteer Alice Muskett has been offering free online Mindfulness workshops for people with ME/CFS and carers. Alice is trained as an accredited Mindfulness meditation teacher and she is passionate about the benefits of using meditation to support wellbeing.

Mindfulness is a way of accepting the present moment without judgement. Accessing these sessions may enable some people to improve their ability to deal with the stress of living with a long-term health condition like ME/CFS. Mindfulness is not for everyone and is only one part of the picture for anyone wanting to manage the symptoms of ME/CFS

If you would like to attend either of the remaining workshops in 2024, please get in touch. They will take place online at:

  • 11am on Friday 29 November
  • 1pm on Monday 16 December.

You don’t need any equipment to participate, which you can do sitting or lying down. You can switch it off at any time if you feel you need to for any reason. Sessions are suitable for all levels of experience, including complete beginners.

IMPORTANT The workshops and film (see below) may not be appropriate for someone who has epilepsy or has experienced complex trauma. If you have asthma, then you may need your inhaler to hand, in case the focus on breathing induces an asthma attack. If you have any doubts about listening, then please check with your healthcare professional.

Mindfulness meditation film

Alice has also made a 20-minute Mindfulness meditation film for anyone living with or caring for someone with ME/CFS, so that this can be accessed any time.

It starts with a brief description of what Mindfulness is and how it might benefit people. After this there is a short practice to allow you to settle and focus on your breathing; followed by a guided meditation with a mantra.

While our workshops and the recording are available free as we want people to be able to access this whatever their circumstances, we welcome any donations to support our work.
