Learn About M.E. and Paediatrics podcast: listen now
November 23, 2023
The tenth episode of our Learn about M.E. podcast series is available to listen to now. We welcome Consultant Respiratory Physician Dr Binita Kane and parent Helen Gibson, who highlight the need for specialist support and understanding for children and young people who live with M.E.
Learn about M.E. is collaborative project between Action for M.E., ME Association, #MEAction Scotland and the 25% ME Group to ensure more medical students and practising doctors understand M.E., funded by the Scottish Government’s Neurological Framework.
In January 2021, Dr Kane’s 10-year-old daughter developed Covid-19, and subsequently Long Covid, and M.E. Acknowledging her limited knowledge of M.E. despite being a medical professional, Dr Kane began an international search for answers, culminating in her becoming a researcher, patient advocate, and champion for Long COVID Kids. She is now a specialist physician treating patients with M.E. and Long COVID.
Helen Gibson, a volunteer for #ME Action Scotland, a member of M.E. Parents and Mum to a 17-year-old-daughter with M.E., also shares her family’s experience. She explains how her family have had to develop an expertise on the illness far beyond that which most patients/carers would expect, a direct result of M.E. being so poorly understood. She is now active in campaigning for better awareness, support and research into potential treatments for children and adults living with M.E.
All our podcasts are available on Buzzsprout, Apple and Spotify.
